India's two-wheeler market jumped 51.76% in October 2025, hitting 31.5 lakh retail units compared to 20.75 lakh units a year earlier. Hero MotoCorp topped the charts with 9.94 lakh units, driven by festive demand, rural liquidity improvements, and consistent urban buying.
Sales Breakdown
Hero's 72.20% year-over-year growth came from strong sales of its Splendor and HF Deluxe models, backed by festive offers at dealerships. The brand's extensive rural and semi-urban network gave it a clear advantage during the festival season.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India finished second with 8.22 lakh units, up 47.78%.
The Activa scooter range remained the primary contributor, while entry-level commuter bikes added volume. Honda's nationwide dealer presence helped it capture both scooter and motorcycle buyers.
TVS Motor Company moved 5.58 lakh units, recording 57.82% growth. The brand balanced volumes across commuter bikes, Apache sports motorcycles, and its iQube electric scooter. Recent launches including the RTX 300, Ntorq 150, and Orbiter models contributed to this performance.
Bajaj Auto sold 3.24 lakh units with 40.11% growth, led by the Pulsar lineup. Royal Enfield posted 1.45 lakh units, up 47.32%.

Electric Vehicle Performance
Ather Energy registered the highest percentage gain among EV makers at 72.95%, selling 28,101 units. Greaves-owned Ampere nearly doubled its volume with 91.20% growth, reaching 7,629 units.
Ola Electric dropped 61.68% to just 16,036 units. The brand faced intensifying competition from established players entering the electric segment and struggled to maintain its earlier momentum.
Our Analysis
The 51% market surge reflects pent-up festive demand and improved rural purchasing power. Hero's dominance stems from its commuter segment strength, where most Indian buyers still operate. Honda's scooter focus paid off as urban families continue preferring automatic transmission over geared bikes.
TVS's balanced portfolio approach, mixing commuter bikes with premium offerings and EVs, positions it well for different buyer segments. The brand avoided overreliance on any single category.
Ola Electric's sharp decline raises questions about its quality control and service network amid growing competition. Ather's steady growth suggests that premium EV buyers value established service infrastructure over aggressive pricing.
Traditional brands expanding into electric vehicles will likely pressure pure EV startups further. The festive spike may not sustain into November and December as the market normalizes post-Diwali.

Market Outlook
October's numbers confirm that two-wheeler demand remains tied to rural income cycles and festival timing. Electric two-wheelers now represent a meaningful segment, but traditional combustion engines still dominate 95% of sales. The fourth quarter will test whether brands can sustain growth without festive tailwinds.
